The TMC has taken Shah Jahan’s path, it seems! In the annals of history, the Taj Mahal stands as a testament of power gone astray. Hidden beneath its majestic white marble facade lies a dark chapter of coercion and cruelty. Shah Jahan infamously ordered the chopping off of hands of workers involved in its construction. It is a grim reminder of the lengths to which power can corrupt and control.

TMC Releases Fatwa?

Fast forward to contemporary times, and echoes of such coercive tactics resurface in the heartland of Indian democracy, Birbhum, West Bengal. Jatileswar Mondal, a leader of the Trinamool Congress, recently made headlines for his chilling threat to chop off the hands of anyone daring to speak against his party or engaging in what he termed ‘negative campaigning.’

The parallels between Shah Jahan’s iron-fisted rule and Mondal’s authoritarian rhetoric are striking. Both wielded power with impunity, using fear and intimidation to maintain control over their domains. While Shah Jahan’s brutality was motivated by a desire for architectural perfection and imperial grandeur, Mondal’s actions stem from a desperate bid to cling onto political power in a fiercely contested electoral landscape.

Power Gone Astray?!

The Taj Mahal is wasting away, and it may soon hit the point of no return

PC The Conversation

Shah Jahan’s Taj Mahal harbors a dark history of suffering and exploitation.

Behind its majestic facade lies the story of thousands of artisans and laborers who endured grueling conditions, with many paying the ultimate price for the emperor’s grandiose vision. Similarly, TMC leader Mondal’s recent threat to voters in Birbhum unveils a disturbing disregard for democratic norms and the fundamental rights of citizens.

His brazen assertion of control over the electoral process and his readiness to employ violence to stifle opposition echo the tyranny of Shah Jahan’s era.

Shah Jahan’s reign eventually faced the reckoning of justice and accountability. So too must Mondal and those who follow in his footsteps be held responsible for their actions. The widespread outcry against Mondal’s threats, resonating both online and offline.

The parallel between Shah Jahan’s autocracy and Mondal’s authoritarianism is spine chilling. It calls upon all who cherish freedom and justice to stand in defense of the principles that underpin our democratic republic. Only through collective action can we honor the sacrifices of the past and forge a future where oppression finds no sanctuary.
