BJP and its CMs are trying their hardest to pave the way for the new era of Bharat! While UP is progressing under CM Yogi, Assam has its hero in CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. This dynamic and outspoken leader is heading a major initiative in the state. CM Sarma’s vision encompasses inclusivity, social justice, and regional harmony. Let’s unpack how CM Sarma is spearheading three major initiatives that promise to reshape the narrative of Assam in the coming year.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Muslim Caste Census

#AgendaAajTak23 pic.twitter.com/wa1vGy8KAO

In a groundbreaking move, CM Sarma announced in an interview that Assam is also initiating a state-wise caste census. However, the twist was that this census was not directed at the Hindu population, but at the Muslims in Assam.

In his efforts to acknowledge the diversity within the Muslim community, CM Hemanata Biswa Sarma aims to shed light on the numerous castes that often go unnoticed in Bharat’s second-largest majority.

He states that this exercise will go beyond a mere headcount of the Muslims of Assam. The census seeks to evaluate the equitable distribution of benefits under various minority schemes issued by Bharat’s government. CM Sarma aims to understand whether the privileged few in Muslim communities are monopolizing these advantages. He is deeply concerned that the lower-caste Muslims unaware of government initiatives meant for their upliftment.

The initiative plans to unveil the layers of diversity within the Muslim community of Assam. Moreover, it addresses the need for transparency and equal opportunities for all within minority communities. Once the results of this census are out, Assam will become the first state to address the question of the number of castes in Muslim. Moreover, the state will be able to indicate the benefits meant for all of the minorities if being hoarded by a select few!

CM Sarma’s Proposed Bill on Ban of Polygamy

In another bold announcement, CM Hemanata Biswa Sarma states that Assam’s government is ready to table a bill banning polygamy in Assam by February 2024.

Furthermore, he states that overwhelming responses and feedback from both Hindu and Muslim communities of Assam are the backbone of the proposal. Thus, CM Sarma’s proposed bill aims to ensure that women in Assam are treated with dignity and respect in the state. CM Sarma envisions a society where the rights of individuals, irrespective of gender or religion, are protected.

This bill is a small step towards a Uniform Civil Code (UCC). CM Sarma’s proposal resonates with the broader national discourse on gender and social justice. Thus, it seems that CM Sarma is taking the lead in translating this vision into legislative action. The ban on polygamy is not merely a legal measure! It is a statement affirming the values of equality, justice, and empowerment!

Ulfa Peace Talks on the Verge of Agreement

CM Sarma’s third major announcement involves reaching a signed agreement with the pro-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa).

The negotiations are in the advanced stage of discussions that address the key concerns outlined in Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. The clause focuses on the protection of the rights of indigenous Assamese people. The talks focus on how the central and state governments will uphold constitutional and administrative safeguards for the same in achieving lasting peace in the region.

Thus, by engaging in dialogue with various factions of Ulfa, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and the PM Modi-led government exhibit a commitment to resolving long standing issues in Bharat. This move aptly shows BJP government’s commitment to fostering unity and securing the rights of indigenous communities at both state and central levels.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s three major plans for 2024 showcase him as a visionary leader who will go to the mat for Assam and its people. His three masterstrokes reflect a commitment to social justice, gender equality, and regional harmony. Under his leadership, Assam stands at the cusp of a new era. May the state be able to achieve peace and prosperity where every individual; regardless of caste, creed, or gender; has the opportunity to thrive and grow.
