In response to the provocative actions by pro-Khalistani elements, the Hindu community gathered outside the temple. They waved religious saffron flags adorned with the Om symbol. Patriotic chants such as ‘Vande Mataram’ filled the air. Additionally, anti-Khalistan slogans, including ‘Neem Ka Patta Kadwa Hai, Khalistani bha*wa hai’ and ‘Khalistan is porkistan,’ echoed in the air.

Detainment by Surrey Police:

Local law enforcement intervened, detaining some of the Khalistani elements and restoring order. However, despite the police intervention, temple authorities remain apprehensive about the ongoing threat to devotees and the place of worship.

Unaddressed Complaints:

Temple authorities expressed ongoing concerns about the safety of the Hindu community, emphasizing that incidents involving Khalistani elements have become a distressing regularity.

Despite filing repeated complaints against these elements, the Canadian government has seemingly failed to address the temple’s security concerns, leaving the community in a precarious position.

Previous Incidents and Temple Attacks:

This recent clash is not an isolated event. In recent months, there have been several instances of Khalistani elements targeting Hindu temples in Canada. Incidents include the vandalization of the Shree Mata Bhameshwari Durga Devi Society in Surrey, the defacement of a Ram temple in Mississauga, and the desecration of the Gauri Shankar Mandir in Brampton City, among others.

Canada’s Accusations Against India:

The murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023 added fuel to the fire. In September 2023, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of involvement in Nijjar’s murder, leading to a diplomatic row. Despite India’s denial and the lack of credible evidence, the fallout resulted in the expulsion of diplomats and strained bilateral relations.

Ongoing Diplomatic Tensions:

Two months after the diplomatic fallout, India is yet to receive any substantial evidence supporting Canada’s accusations. The strained relationship between the two nations raises questions about the accuracy of the allegations and the potential impact on the safety of minority communities in Canada.

The recent clash outside the Laxmi Narayan Mandir in Surrey highlights the growing tensions between Khalistani elements and the Hindu community in Canada. With concerns for the safety of devotees and the sanctity of temples on the rise, it is crucial for the Canadian government to address the safety of Hindus in Canada!
