Today marks the arrival of French President Emmanuel Macron in Jaipur as the Chief Guest for the 75th Republic Day celebrations in Delhi. His visit marks the 25th anniversary celebration of India-France strategic Partnership. On this occasion, a contingent of French armed forces will participate in republic day parade. They will fly-past alongside Indian aviators and troops.

Ahead of their visit, the pink city is all decked up to welcome French President Macron and PM Narendra Modi. During their six hour visit they will not only promote Jaipur and Rajasthan as tourist destination but will also highlight the growth of digital economy in India.

Schedule of the Visit-

At 2:30 p.m. today, President Macron will land in Jaipur. He will first proceed to Amber Fort which a UNESCO world heritage site. A cultural program showcasing Rajasthan’s folk heritage will greet him, according to officials. Post this, at approximately 5.30 p.m., Macron will arrive at Jantar Mantar. PM Modi will meet him there after his planned visit to Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.

Later on, the two leaders will tour the city together. They will go on a guided tour of Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory constructed in 1730 by Sawai Jai Singh, the founder of Jaipur. Then they will have tea by roadside and make payment via UPI transaction. Around 6 o’clock in the evening, Modi and Macron will embark on a roadshow from Jantar Mantar to Sanganeri Gate. From there, they will visit Sawai Pratap Singh’s 1799-constructed Hawa Mahal.

It is probable that Macron will buy something from handicraft stores near the Hawa Mahal. Post this, the two leaders will head to Rambagh Palace Hotel where they will have bilateral talks.

The bilateral talks will involve discussions on defense, space, science and technology, education and on trade. The earlier dialogues have already resulted in business worth 30 billion dollars. Macron will be accompanied by a delegation comprising of French Foreign Minister, Defense Minister, finance minister and other advisors. Then PM Modi will host dinner for Macron and both will depart for Delhi at 8:50pm.

Preparations-

Hectic preparations are underway in Jaipur for the much-anticipated visit of the two leaders. Flowers adorn the main roads that lead from the airport to the Amber Fort. The walled city’s roads were freed of encroachment and cleaned. The main market areas of the Walled City received a fresh coat of paint. On Tuesday, Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and deputy chief minister Diya Kumari evaluated all the arrangements. They guided officials to ensure that there were no hiccups during the entire tour.

On Wednesday, officials were busy checking the arrangements. Rukimini Riar, Commissioner of JMC, states that officials have been assigned fixed areas to supervise. They have to ensure that within their area all the preparations are in place for the VVIP visit. This includes ensuring cleanliness, lighting, flagging of the route and making sure that water and portable restrooms are available.

There’s strict security in place. According to Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph, over 4,000 police officers are stationed at the walled city, airport, and Amber. He said that several roads will be closed and the traffic will be rerouted between 2 and 7 p.m. There are traffic restrictions in place, and the walled city is now a no-vehicle, no-traffic area.
