MITSVS recognizes the need for research to enhance the conceptual foundations of various disciplines of knowledge, and to develop new authentic Vedic / shaastric models to enrich those disciplines with deeper insights.

As part of this endeavor, MITSVS would like to organize invited lectures by academic experts to help the community get a conceptual understanding of those disciplines and open unresolved issues to be addressed.

Our next talk is an expert tutorial on Management theory and the potential contribution of Vedic wisdom for aspiring researchers.

Speaker Profile​


Dr. Sankaran, currently heads Justice KS Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte, Karnataka, India. He a a B. Tech Honours (IIT, Kharagpur), PGDM (IIM Bangalore) and PhD (Kent State University, USA). He has several years of experience in management consulting, project management and entrepreneurship, in addition to academic experience in India, US, UK, Middle East and East Asia.

Dr. Sankaran is widely published with his articles appearing in journals such as Strategic Management Journal; Journal of Marketing Management; Journal of Consumer Marketing; Singapore Management Review; International Journal of Studies in Public Leadership and Nitte Management Review.

He has presented papers at many international conferences in the US and UK including those of the Academy of Management, Decision Sciences Institute and Society for Business Ethics. His teaching/ research interests span Strategic Management, Business Ethics, Social Entrepreneurship, Knowledge Management, Higher Education Governance and Leadership and, recently, Indic Wisdom Systems.

Synopsis of the Talk​


This talk would introduce the Management Discipline in a unique way. It will show
typically

  1. what the different sub-disciplines of management are and how the value chain
    links them
  2. the courses that are normally offered in MBA programs, and
  3. what the key parameters for measuring business performance are.

The talk also would discuss the Strategic Management Framework that has application in any kind of management conceptualization/ planning and practice.

In seeking to improve any practice, the presentation would show how it is possible to conceptualize improving organizational practices (and long term performance) holistically through a three-step process of regulation-governance-ethical discourse.

Finally the talk would interrogate as to whether vedic wisdom can inform the manner in which knowledge pertaining to Management could be re-conceptualized more holistically.
