The #Maldives are trending for all the wrong reasons! The anti-India Mohamed Muizzu and his party ascended to power in the island nation with a landslide victory in 2023. Soon thereafter, the new regime made many political missteps in the global geo-political arena. The new power pushers have made loud noises against PM Modi and Bharat. Their verbal diarrhea was completely unwelcomed by Indian netizens. While the Indian government ignored the juvenile jabs, the Indian public took this island nation to the cleaners.

The name of Maldives originates from Sanskrit. The Sanskrit words ‘Mala’ means garland and ‘Dweepa’ means island. The 26 coral atolls and over 1,000 islands of Maldives resemble a garland of islands in the ocean. Thus, this place was aptly called Mala Dweepa or Mala Dweepam, alluding to a picturesque necklace of coral islands in the ocean. The indigenous tribe of the land was the Giraavaru, who claim to be descendants of Tamil origins. They ruled these islands under the name of Dheeva Maari or Dheeva Mahal! The original Dhivehi is a derivative of the original language of the Giraavaru people. Some historians remark on its similarity to the Tamil language of Bharat!

Later, this island group took on a Buddhist identity under Buddhist King Koimala’s occupation. This new kingdom became a hub of Buddhist civilization and had extensive maritime trade with the Bharat! Thaana or Tana, a Maldivian script, is rooted in the ancient Grantha script. The other two scripts Eveyla and Dhives bear a strong similarity to Ancient Indian Subcontinent scripts of Elu and Vatteluttu!

A case in point is the 2012 Male Museum attack! A few Buddhist remnants of the past were placed on display in the Male Museum. These remains are now lost to history due to an attack by a radical Islamic mob! In their minds, what they destroyed was not a part of their history! Thereby proving that the Sunni Islamic Maldivian zealot population lives in severe denial of its connection to Sanatana Dharma! Will denying the truth erase its history?! Only the minds of a fool!
The island republic has boasted about its white sandy beaches, warm hospitality, and blue ocean water! Post-independence in 1965, the island republic enjoyed a love-hate relationship with Bharat. The Island depends on Bharat for nearly 12% of its tourist footfall. As per government data, 8 infrastructure projects that aims to support Maldives tourism are being funded by India. These include the Water and Sanitation on 34 Islands Project and the redevelopment of the two International Airports of Hanimaadhoo and Gan.

Clean Environment??? Not Really! The Paradise of this Island Republic has a black heart! In its center lies an artificial landfill island named Thilafushi. This is the island of collective Maldivian garbage. Once a lagoon, this trash-filled island receives tons of garbage like plastic items, metals, and clothes daily.
The religious intolerance of Sunni Islams prohibits even visitors from carrying symbols of their religion. All idols, religious texts, symbols, etc. must be left at home for a visit to this islands! Moreover, one cannot import idols to the Maldivian islands as well. Thus, a Sanatani working in this island republic is completely disconnected from his religion. Where are the protesting seculars and liberals for this reality of intolerance???!!! Freedom of Religion Anyone?!??

The island republic depends on Bharat for food, medicine, and other essentials. Nearly, a third of its employment comes through the tourism industry of which Bharat is a major player! However, the Maldivians, under new management, hesitate to continue its marriage to India! Instead, Muszzui’s Republic prefers a new Honeymoon with China! What else can you expect from a President who was elected on the chant of “India Out”? However, the price of getting in bed with China for economic benefits has serious fallouts! Therefore, Maldivians should observe the lesson that Sri Lanka‘s catastrophe taught the world.
While the naive Prediesnt Muizzu tries to stir up a pot of trouble using Bharat and China, Bharat’s people have shown solidarity with its PM Modi! We pray that the island republic will soon understand the benefit of being friends with Bharat in the global arena of geopolitics! Hopefully, even if Maldivians no longer embrace their Sanatani Roots, they will stop denying or destroying it!
