On 28th July 2023, the Kolkata High Court Judge, Abhijit Gangopadhyay, made an unconventional remark during the illegal construction case. The judge made the remark while addressing a woman’s plea to seek protection after she protested against illegal construction in her area. In an attempt at humor, the judge suggested that the Kolkata Municipal Corporation should borrow a bulldozer from CM Yogi Adityanath. This lighthearted remark, made unofficially, turned into a ‘Burnol Moment’ for the arch-nemesis and governing TMC party officials.

The judge’s remark was meant as a light-hearted suggestion to deal with the issue of illegal construction. However, the sensitive skin of TMC received flash burns from this comment. TMC’s leaders heavily criticized the High Court judge, labeling him as an ‘anti-TMC’ element in power. Kunal Ghosh, a TMC leader, accused Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of seeking publicity and fame by making loose unofficial comments. Moreover, he claimed that the judge’s comments about borrowing bulldozers from Yogi Adityanath’s government reflected a lack of trust in the West Bengal government.
