On the banks of Saryu, stands the Ayodhya Ram Mandir tall! This temple at the sacred city of Ayodhya, the birthplace of Ram Lalla, echoes Sanatana Dharma’s history. On 22nd January 2024 Sanatanis rejoiced in Bhakti, Hindu hearts overflowed with love, and Bharat marked the return of Ram Lalla to his abode with Pran Prathishthan and Deep Utsav!!!

However, this Ram Mandir is more than just a place of worship! The grand new Ram Mandir at Ayodhya is a unique architectural marvel where traditional heritage meets cutting-edge technology. Let’s talk about this sacred structure, designed by Chandrakant B Sompura and his son Ashish, on 2.7 acres of land of Ram Janmabhoomi!

The new temple’s silhouette gracefully pierces the sky and declares the rise of a new Bharat! Standing at an imposing 161 feet tall, the majestic mandir is 235 feet wide and its length stretches to 360 feet. This temple embraces the distinctive Nagara style of temple architecture.

This style of temple construction was prevalent in the 5th century AD in medieval Bharat. Vastu Shastra finds a good friend in Shilpa Shastra in this temple made in Chalukya dynasty style!

The temple is a three-floor structure, boasting a built-up area of nearly 57,000 square feet. Each of the three floors of the temple is 20 feet tall individually. The main entrance is the Singh Dwar and there are 44 teak doors in the mandir. With 392 pillars holding up the 5 mandapas and the sikhara, the mandir is a sacred canvas where Vedic rituals merge seamlessly with modern sensibilities.

Granite, sandstone, and marble are the chosen materials for the temple. These stones form a meticulously assembled lock-and-key mechanism quintessential to the Sanatani architectural style. Modern architecture uses iron rods with a lifespan of at most 90 years. Thus, the temple trust chose to use ancient technology of Vedic constructions that have passed the test of time.

The absence of steel or iron ensures an extraordinary lifespan of up to 1,000 years for Ayodhya Ram Mandir. Another unique feature is the absence of cement or mortar, underscoring the priority of traditional Sanatani building methods. May the beauty of Mandir never be stained! May its generosity to all never be strained!

Scientific Innovation and Visionary Collaboration

The involvement of top Indian scientists, including contributions from ISRO technologies, adds a touch of scientific innovation to Ayodhya Ram Mandir. The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and CBRI were Ram Lalla’s design advisors for his mandir. Larsen and Toubro (L&T) took on the mantle of the physical realization of Bharat’s dream temple. Tata Consulting Engineers (TCEL) supervised the design actualization of this architectural masterpiece.
