There was once a time when former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on losing vote of confidence in 1996 said that the Governments come and governments go. Parties appear and then disappear. But this country should remain and its democracy should remain eternally.
Such was the grace displayed by him. In fact, to ensure political stability at the center in the 1990s. He had even offered outside support to Congress but provided Manmohan Singh is made PM. Though Atal ji raised objections to various provisions in budget of 1991. Yet he praised Manmohan Singh. Similarly, Manmohan Singh gracefully accepted his criticism and tried to improve.
Such were the politicians at one point of time.
But now, following a crushing defeat in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh assembly elections. The Congress ecosystem and its I.N.D.I alliance has stooped so low that they attacked the voter of these states.
DMK’s MP Senthil Kumar, made a remark in parliament saying “People of this country should think that the power of this BJP is only winning elections and mainly in the heartland states of Hindi or what we generally call as the ‘Gaumutra states”
Simply because they lost the elections in these states, Congress and its allies, began abusing the voters in the entire states. The Congress party’s supporters began accusing the residents of these states as being illiterate, communal, Bimaru, regressive, and with other negative jibes as soon as they lost the elections in these Hindi-speaking states. Yes, the same states were they were in power till a short while ago.
He said, “If they want to implement it to make India a developed state, let them implement Tamil Nadu’s model throughout the state. Instead, why is it being thrust upon us? We totally reject it. If they want, they are very keen upon it then have it in Gaumutra states”
Soon, others joined in this denigration. Former UPA Home Minister P Chidambaram, Karti tweeted, “The SOUTH!” fanning communal and divisive politics. Others started tweeting – “India’s split is now complete. It’s progressive South vs Communal North. I don’t know for how long the south will pay for and carry the north’s bigotry.”
It’s no more shocking as Congress and its allies have been using such divide and rule policy for over five decades. For staying in power, they have time and again resorted to pitting one religion against another, one caste against another.
Ever since Narendra Modi ji has come into National politics, Congress has been making desperate attempts to win and win at any cost! From political gimmicks of “Bharat Jodo Yatra” to fanning “South vs North” divide. A Congress youth functionary Dhivya Maruthaiah from Tamil Nadu openly declared and asked for separating the southern states from northern – “Just cut us off man. South is for us,”. North, go wherever/ however you want”.
DMK leaders also have had a track record of using their speeches to sow discord. Previously also there have been incidents of them using “Aryan vs Dravidian”, and “Tamils vs Pani poor walas”.narrative. Basically they have been systematically trying to insinuate demand for regional autonomy like “Dravida Nadu”
As political leaders greatly influence the public opinion it is crucial to hold them responsible. Such communal narratives not only threaten the unity and integrity of our country but also escalates regional animosities and separatism. Its high time that people of Bharat strongly condemn such remarks and start holding such politicians, journalists or people accountable for their words. Be it Udhay Stalin who calls to eradicate Sanatan Dharma , Revanth Reddy who calls Telangana’s DNA being better than Bihari or Karti and Praveen Chakraborty posting on north-south divide. Any politician who wants to get elected by turning Indians against other Indians is too dangerous to be elected. We can’t afford such divisive politics promoting separatism. We must remember that we are one and collectively we must forge ahead as Bharatiya.
