In a surprising shift, Germany is taking a U-turn on its approach to immigration, signaling a move towards tougher laws. The push for stricter anti-immigration measures comes from Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Both Germany and Italy are emphasizing the need to make it easier to not just restrict immigration but also deport asylum seekers.

Thus, it seems that change is the name of the game. European nations’ stance is driven by the overwhelming impact of the large number of migrants on the nation. Will the European Union face a strong stand against the EU’s open border policies?

Germany Calls For Stricter Immigration Laws

Angela Merkle’s Germany was known for its relatively open approach to immigration. The nation was pivotal in enforcing the Open Borders Policy for the EU. However, the new Germany is now considering tightening its immigration laws.

Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, is advocating for measures to restrict immigration from the Middle-East regions and conflict zones. It is also calling for facilitating the deportation of asylum seekers, reflecting a departure from the nation’s previous stance.

Following Germany’s lead, Italy is also planning to implement stricter immigration measures. Italy plans to send all immigrants to Albania, in immigration camps. The hopeful migrants will await the results of their asylum applications while Italy considers their case.

Albania will establish immigration centers for this purpose, with each center accommodating a maximum of 3,000 refugees. The plan is set to be operational next year, with only one center opening at a time.

Italy also plans to restrict the number of asylum applications for refugees. The country aims to process only 36,000 asylum seekers annually. This move by Italy aligns with the broader trend of EU member states reassessing their immigration policies.

Overwhelmed Nations and Reduced Support

The influx of Middle Eastern Muslim migrants has taken a toll on European nations. A large number of foreign nationals are eating up the resources of these countries, while the people of the country face rising inflation and unemployment. Consequently, they are reevaluating their support for immigrants who dirty their streets and disrespect their laws. With Germany at the helm, most EU members intend to reduce the level of support the migrants avail. This is a significant shift from their previous policy of unrestricted access to resources.

Even the EU seemingly approves of these shifts in immigration policies. No one is raising concerns about the refugee camps in Albania suggested by Italy. There are no clear policies or laws to ensure that the process of ‘deporting’ migrants adheres to the EU’s or UN’s established standards. Is Europe collectively ready to face the backlash of its anti-immigration policy?

EU member states, once proponents of open borders, are openly now reevaluating their policies. The inability of Muslim immigrants to be grateful for the refuge offered by the EU is evident in the ways Europe has been burning in the last 2 years. The large-scale migration of Muslim immigrants has ensured not just a demographic change in the EU but also a security issue related to the single-minded agenda of the Ummah!

As Germany and Italy spearhead efforts to implement stricter immigration controls, the EU faces a shifting geo-political landscape. The election of nationalist governments across various EU member nations reflects evolving dynamics surrounding immigration policies. It seems the Europeans are no longer waiting with open arms and hearts for the migrant Muslims. Moreover, it is evident that the resident populations of EU member states can understand the deep hatred the Muslim migrants bear for them. May the changes proposed by Germany and Italy reshape the discourse on immigration within the EU. May the coming years differ from the past 2 years for Europe.
