The world witnessed a significant development in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict on the 31st of October. Iran-backed Houthi rebels from Yemen claimed responsibility for launching missile and drone attacks on the Israeli city of Eilat. This marked a concerning escalation in the conflict, as the Houthi group officially joined the Israel-Hamas war.

The Attack on Eilat

The Israeli military reported that it had successfully intercepted the “aerial targets” launched by the Houthis rebels. These attacks were aimed at the southernmost city of Eilat but were neutralized before they could enter Israeli territory. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) emphasized that no intrusion into Israeli territory was detected, thanks to their defense systems.

One notable aspect of this incident was the first operational use of the long-range Arrow air defense system during the war with Hamas. This advanced system intercepted a surface-to-surface missile launched from the Red Sea area, highlighting the growing technological capabilities involved in the conflict.

Houthi’s Motivation

The Houthis spokesperson, Yahya Sria, stated that their aerial assault, comprising drones, ballistic, and cruise missiles, was carried out due to a sense of religious, moral, humanitarian, and national responsibility for the people of Gaza. He also pointed to the perceived weakness of the Arab world and the alleged collusion of some Arab countries with Israel as motivations for the attacks.

Additionally, he mentioned that the operation was prompted by the demands of the Yemeni people.

The “Death to America, Death to Israel” Slogan

It’s important to note that the Houthis rebels are known for their slogan, “Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse the Jews, Victory to Islam.” This extremist ideology showcases their hostility towards Israel and their alignment with Iran’s interests.

Background on Houthi Rebels

The Houthis rebels have been a destabilizing force in Yemen since they seized the capital, Sanaa, in 2014. They control large portions of the country and are considered part of the “axis of resistance” against Israel, alongside Hamas, another Iran-backed group.

Ongoing Displacement in Israel

The recent attacks on Eilat come after a series of events that have caused significant displacement in Israel. A terrorist attack and incursion by Hamas in southern Israel on October 7th, coupled with Hezbollah attacks in the north, led to the displacement of many Israelis who were temporarily housed in the southern resort city of Eilat. This has made Eilat a target for Iran-backed terror outfits.

Previous Incidents

Prior to the latest attacks, there were reports of drone infiltrations near Eilat. The IDF intercepted these drones, believed to be launched from Yemen. The location of these incidents was close to the Israeli border with Egypt. It raised concerns about the potential involvement of Iran-backed Houthis rebels.

The involvement of Iran-backed Houthis rebels in the Israel-Hamas conflict is a frightening. Seeing the terrifying Islamic brutality on Jews should be a wake up call for all!!
