In recent days, a heated exchange between Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai and Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has unfolded on social media. It sheds light on a series of accusations and counter-accusations. The controversy involves allegations of a ‘cash for query’ scam, political ambitions, and even a custody battle over a pet dog named ‘Henry.’
On Sunday, November 26, Jai Anant Dehadrai took a veiled swipe at Mahua Moitra, referring to her as “Rolex Kumari”. He claimed that she lacked substantial material to criticize Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Dehadrai, Moitra had purported plans to leave the Trinamool Congress and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once she accumulated sufficient funds to launch her own political party, referred to as the “Bengal Party.”

Dehadrai further alleged that Moitra regularly abused Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and TMC leader, Abhishek Banerjee, calling him a “corrupt charisma-less dunce with no political capital.”

Earlier in November, Dehadrai posted a picture of himself wearing an HMT watch. He subtly contrasted it with a reference to a stolen Rolex in connection with Mahua Moitra’s alleged acceptance of gifts for asking specific questions in the Lok Sabha.
Adding fuel to the fire, Abhijit Iyer Mitra claimed that Mahua Moitra changed her WhatsApp display picture to showcase a Rolex Pink Gold Lady Datejust watch, which reportedly retails for ₹25 lakhs. This observation added another layer to the ongoing controversy.

Earlier in the month, the dispute between Mahua Moitra and Jai Anant Dehadrai took an unexpected turn when Dehadrai announced the return of his allegedly stolen dog, ‘Henry.’ The custody battle over the Rottweiler had become a contentious point between the two.
The entire controversy, dubbed “MahuaGate,” began when BJP MP Nishkant Dubey wrote to the ethics committee. He asked for an inquiry into Mahua Moitra’s involvement in the ‘Cash for Query’ matter. Dehadrai’s letter to the Delhi police commissioner accused Moitra of stealing and hiding his pet dog, Henry.
Moitra admitted to sharing her parliamentary login credentials with Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani. The IT ministry reported that Moitra’s parliamentary ID was accessed 49 times from Dubai. It led to the initiation of a CBI inquiry.
