The Madras Music Academy has faced criticism for awarding the Sangita Kalanidhi to T.M. Krishna, a Far Left activist. Krishna has been known for his anti-Ayodhya temple statements and essays. Music Academy's decision is a political one, and should be boycotted. The award is also a way to rehabilitate Krishna into the academy after he previously withdrew from performing in the December season concerts. Krishna's actions have undermined the spiritual and pious nature of Carnatic music.
