On the evening of January 11th, a mob attacked the sadhus, pulling their hair, stripping them naked, and beating them with sticks. Disturbing videos of the incident have gone viral on social media. The sadhus are joining their hands in a plea for mercy while an unruly crowd surrounds them. The assault was triggered by suspicions that the sadhus were kidnappers.

Police Presence and Backlash:

Despite a small police presence attempting to keep the mob at bay, the disturbing attack unfolded. This incident draws parallels with the Palghar lynching in 2020 when a mob brutally beat two sadhus to death in the presence of the police. In the current case, authorities have arrested 12 accused, and raids are underway to apprehend others involved in the assault.

Political Fallout:

The incident has triggered a massive backlash against the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal. Critics hold Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accountable for alleged Muslim appeasement politics, fostering anti-Hindu sentiments.

The Bharatiya Janata Party strongly condemns the incident, with leaders like Amit Malviya expressing shock and criticizing the ruling TMC for its alleged involvement.

Social Media Outcry:

Social media platforms have become a battleground for expressing outrage and demanding justice. Critics question Mamata Banerjee’s silence on the issue and demand accountability for the alleged anti-Hindu sentiments fostered under her governance. The incident has reignited debates on religious freedom and the safety of Hindus in various parts of the country.

Details of the Incident:

Reports suggest that a man and his two sons, all sadhus, were traveling to Gangasagar for the Makar Sankranti festival. Suspicions arose when locals became agitated after the sadhus inquired about the route. The situation escalated when three teenage girls, whom the sadhus had asked for directions, screamed and fled, further fueling suspicion. The agitated crowd subsequently assaulted the sadhus.

Police Intervention:

As the situation worsened, the local police intervened, rescued the sadhus, and transported them to the Kasipur Police Station. Authorities have registered a case, and investigations are underway. Purulia Police Superintendent Abhijit Banerjee assures that raids are being conducted to apprehend those involved in the assault.
