Controversy is buzzing in the political landscape of Telangana as Bharatiya Janata Party MLA T Raja Singh announces his decision to boycott the upcoming oath-taking ceremony. It is scheduled for Saturday. The appointment of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen leader Akbaruddin Owaisi as the pro-tem speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly sparked this bold move.

The Pro-Tem Speaker Appointment:

Governor Tamilisai Soundararjan’s notification of Akbaruddin Owaisi as the pro-tem speaker. It is based on his status as the senior-most legislator in the House. This has set the stage for a dramatic turn of events. The pro-tem speaker’s role is temporary, primarily to preside over the oath-taking ceremony of newly-elected members until the assembly elects a permanent speaker.

Raja Singh’s Bold Stand:

T Raja Singh said,

“We will boycott tomorrow, will not participate in the oath-taking ceremony in front of Akbaruddin Owaisi”.

T Raja Singh’s refusal to take the oath in the presence of Akbaruddin Owaisi stems from his deep-rooted objections to Owaisi’s political history. Singh stated that Owaisi is a product of Qasim Razvi, the head of the Nizam’s Razakar army.

The Razakar army was implicated in the massacre of Telangana people. Singh, known for his fiery rhetoric, has been vocal in opposing Owaisi’s leadership, citing inflammatory statements made by the AIMIM leader in the past.

Controversial Statements:

Singh pointedly referred to Akbaruddin Owaisi’s 2012 speech. He had called for the removal of the police for 15 minutes to “finish off” 100 crore Hindus. Owaisi was acquitted in the case last year. However, Singh insists that such statements are unacceptable. He refuses to take an oath under someone with a history of divisive rhetoric.

The political dynamics in Telangana have been in flux. The recent formation of the government by the Congress and the appointment of Revanth Reddy as the Chief Minister took place. Singh accuses the Congress of revealing its true colors after forming the government. He also took stand that the alliance between BJP, AIMIM, and BRS is being misrepresented.

Boycott and Future Plans:

T Raja Singh has clearly stated his intention to boycott the oath-taking ceremony and plans to take the oath in the speaker’s chamber the following day after the Telangana assembly elects a new speaker. A parliamentary party meeting is scheduled to assess whether Singh’s stance aligns with the party’s overall position. Notably, the other seven BJP MLAs elected in the assembly polls have not publicly commented on boycotting the assembly on its first day.

Singh cited objections to Owaisi’s political history and controversial statements. A parliamentary party meeting is set to determine if Singh’s stance aligns with the party’s position. The other seven BJP MLAs, out of the eight seats won in the assembly polls, have not commented on boycotting the first day. Governor Tamilisai Soundararjan has appointed Akbaruddin Owaisi as the pro-tem speaker. Owaisi will preside over the session temporarily until the assembly elects a new speaker. His appointment follows his sixth consecutive win from Chandrayangutta.
